And you’ll never guess what was on his bench waiting for a rebuild! A Fiesta/Focus PowerShift, which he refers to as his bread and butter.
Also, it was after work and he was changing the oil/rotating the tires on his FiST, and I got to look fully underneath. So many low lying parts.

What is the powershift?

It’s the one that is currently under a class action lawsuit. It’s the automatic that comes in the Fiesta/Focus. It needs a rebuild every 40-50k miles.

Wow that’s worse than land Rover coolant hoses, driveshafts, and transmission fluid.

He works at a smaller dealership and still sees them all the time.

PowerShift?
I think you mean Power Shit.
We used to have a 2012 Focus SEL Sedan and I can confirm it’s the worst transmission available in a car. We traded it in for a new 2014 Passat TSI Wolfsburg Edition because we hated the PowerShift THAT much.

My parents will agree with you.
The ZF 8HP is the only reason I prefer automatics.
/I’ll show myself out. Pls tell the mods I’ll leave my Oppo card on the coffee table.

Its the DCT Ford uses in the Focus and Fiesta that turns into a jerky broken mess constantly.

How do you know if a transmission has gone bad? This is gonna sound like a dumb question from a car guy, but I’m just curious. Sometimes, the transmission in my RAV4 hasn’t been able to shift out of park, and I have to turn the car off or put the parking break down to get the transmission to shift. Is this a sign of an issue, or is this normal? Thank you.

When’s the last time the transmission fluid has been changed? A change in fluid can make a world of difference for a transmission.. Alternatively, if your Rav4 has a cable-shifted automatic, then you might want to try and crawl under to see if there’s slack in the cable that’s preventing the transmission from shifting gears.

It’s getting another service tomorrow, which I want to also look at the A/C issue. I think it was a fluid issue in the transmission, as my RAV4 has had a service after I last had the jerky transmission (last fall). Thank you for your input.

Ye’, the non-STs get black gearknobs.

My mom must be lucky, she’s got 85,000 miles on hers without issue, yeah it shudders a little on initial acceleration, but no major problems (knocks on wood). We’re aware of the problems with these cars though and she is looking to get something else.

They are also 6 speeds, not 5 speeds. I also see that suprisingly decent shift knob nearly every day.

I’m not sure of non-STs with 6 speed gearboxes.
I don’t know much about Fords.

All non-ST manuals are 5 speeds, at least on that generation. The new gen replaced the 5 with a 6.

Thanks. I tried looking at the Ford website but it’s got the new Fiestas up.
Autotrader turned up just five speeds for non-STs also.
